The Grizzly Man

I just saw a documentary called "the Grizzly Man" which follows the adventures of a young man named Timothy Treadwell.
Timothy Treadwell was an environmentalist, filmaker, and a schoolteacher who educated children about animal rights. He lived with the grizzly bears for 13 summers in the wilderness of Alaska, away from any kind of civilization. What I found amazing about all this was that he always believed that these animals were peaceful creatures, and would always say kind words to them like "I love you!". Everyone thought he was crazy for doing this, especially without a gun or weapon to protect himself against them.

He swam in the lakes with the bears and when they showed signs of aggression towards him, he would make a loud sound, stomp his foot as if to charge them and scold them loudly, which maintained his dominance within the society of bears.

The most amazing thing of all is that he made friends with a fox and all her pups, and they'd follow him around and he would pet them just like little dogs. It made me want to have a little fox as a pet.

But I wonder, why didn't he achieve the same kind of intimacy with the bears? When they would come up close to him and sniff his finger, he would immediately say, "ok, go away now, go play, it's ok"? Is it because he was afraid that they were going to hurt him?

During his last summer there a bear attacked, killed and ate him and his girlfriend. HIs girlfriend always said that she was afraid of the bears, then why did she go there with him? My Mom said that it was probably because of sex, but I'm not sure. What do you all think?

Ther are lots of amazing pictures of huskies and bears playing together (some from churchil area). Bears are from the canine family, and can be alot like dogs, but they are still wild animals. It may not be a matter of fear, scent, or dog-pack style hierarchy so much as hunger. It looks like a cool movie though. (I wonder how the fox felt about all this).

Another 'must see' is "The Grizzly Bear Project"!

I think you're right, because its not like a fox looks at a human and thinks about dinner, unless it was a dead human i guess (aren't they scavengers?). Alot of grizzly bears are predators though and if they'rehungry and that they have a good chance of killing you they will.

What's the Grizzly bear project about?

Without giving away too much about the movie, imagine a hilarious real life mixture of 'Legends of the Fall' and 'Robocop'.

(No bears were injured in the making of this film)
