ultra violet
what does it mean
to say that
you're a pretty girl
you're a good girl
you're beautiful
even though
you don't burn
my eyes
like dozens
of blazing sunspots
sweltering
and radiating
from
the sun
did you know that
the sun
is the universe's
object of transcendence?
so far away
from this
dusty
lonely
frosty
town
what does it mean
to say that
you're a good girl
you did your homework on time
you got an A
in swimming class
you didn't complain once
and that was all
OK
by me
even though
you didn't
burn my skin
like millions of
ultra
violet
sunsets
like thousands of
stinging
snakebites
like dozens of
smouldering
cigarette butts
you know I
smoked them
one by one
but they didn't burn me

I really like the conversation here.
the way you invoke the past and shake the roots of that old tree.
and man, can I relate to smoking each and every one, and then just to light up another...
I seem to remember you like constructive crit. so I'd leave out the last line.
the reader can understand clearly that you weren't burned because you smoked them like cigarettes.
cara,
i agree with your comments. thanks!
my mind has been a little cloudy lately what with school, stress, oversleeping, no sunshine and just because it's FEBRUARY..the last stretch of winter.
I'm need of a little inspiration here. maybe i need to run a few laps at the gym or ingest some mind altering substances??
Anyway, this poem is not my best but i thought i would get some out just to get the creative juices flowing, you know?
I can relate. I need a little inspiration myself, February makes me feel like a rusty bike left locked up outside over the winter.
I actually think this poem is excellent. It actually inspired me to write soon after I read it.
My trusty bike IS all rusty and has been left outside all winter.
Do you smoke? Its terrible for your health don't you know. I'm sure you do as do I.
i like to smoke.
despite the health concerns.
i'm not a very good addict though, I'm just not that good at commitment.
